While there is no one sign that shows a person has a learning disability, the more characteristics you check, the more likely that the individual described is at risk for (or shows signs of) a learning disorder.
The following checklist is designed as a helpful guide, not as a diagnostic tool.

Children and adults with learning disorders may display some of the following signs of learning difficulties, along with others.
Here are the red flags to look for:
Difficulty focusing and staying on task
Tendency to be impulsive
Restlessness, impatience
Over-activity or under-activity
Difficulty budgeting time (may leave projects incomplete)
Poor organizational skills (or overly organized)
Difficulty with giving or following directions
Difficulty with reading comprehension (even though they may read fluently)
Has trouble “getting to the point”
Difficulty with spelling
Difficulty with mathematics (concepts or functions)
May lack confidence or self-esteem
May have difficulty regulating emotions
May have difficulty with social cues (ex. taking turns talking, standing at an appropriate distance from another)
May have difficulty understanding age appropriate jokes, sarcasm, idioms, metaphors, etc.
Difficulty with memory (may rely on lists and lots of post-it notes or
frequently can’t find their keys, phone, glasses or wallet/purse, etc.)
May experience difficulty adjusting to change or the unexpected
Poor understanding of the relationship of cause and effect or of consequences
People with learning disabilities may have trouble in school, at home, and on the job.
Adult social adjustment problems-problems with relationships
Low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression
